Hey it’s that time again,
As I haven’t seen the Wild Strays since the Redrum gig, it’s time for a Flashback episode.
With Christmas 2017 fast approaching, we spoke to Phil and said it was time we started looking for a full time Drummer. It was a sad decision but Phil knew this was coming. We all knew it was time to find some one who was more into our style of music.
I put a advert on the Join my band website and I had a couple of drummers message me in the coming weeks. I got talking to a few and then I thought I would scout the website to see if any drummers had put adverts up themselves.
Well, I come across this one guy. Basically his advert stood out because he sounded proper fed up.
He had fallen out with his last band as for reasons that are not mine to say.
And the advert was blunt and to point.
I loved it.
He spoke his mind about how he was feeling so I decided to message him.
We had a couple of conversations on the phone and I explained we had done a couple of gigs, but I assured him in 2018 we would "Hit The Ground Running"
We set up a practice at Robannas and arranged to meet at Stafford Train station.
I remember seeing him for the first time.
He was super cool and me, well I’m pretty much like a excited cat on a hot tin roof most days. So that day was no different.
We chatted for a while and he jumped in the car and we went back to pick Grace up and then continued on to pick up Jake.
We got to Robannas and I remember the room. It was on the top floor, well just round the corner from the main desk where Rob sits.
Last room on the right.
We set up and already the feeling in the room was good. I also remember he was on a green drum kit.
We started hitting into the songs and the smiles across the room and the looks between us while we were playing was there from the get go. We knew this was our Drummer.
We played for a few hours and packed up. Then took him home via Lichfield and then to Stoke.
We offered him the position and he accepted.
I got to say this about him though..
His name is Spice, I don’t think I have mentioned that yet :) and he is one of the most loveliest guys you could possibly meet.
He has a crazy sense of humour which fits so well into the band.
Below is some fun pictures taken with him. From teaching Jake how to shoot a can of larger with a knife at our Wild BBQ, to a studio in Manchester and the meeting of a Subway girl called Sammy. There is already so memories with this guy.
He is sharp and witty and and on top of that. He is such a talented drummer.
He has taken the songs and had breathed new life into them and taken them to a new level.
He really is a purrfect fit into the band and anyone who meets him will surly agree.
As promised we did hit the ground running in 2018 with gigs all over Birmingham plus Derby, Stafford and soon to be Wolverhampton and shush.. but today we learned we may be making our way to Stoke on Trent.
So to wrap this up.
A top guy and wicked Drummer and a all round Wild Stray.
Spice, welcome to the pack.
So get your self along to a gig and come and say hi to him.
In fact our next gig is in 2 nights time.
Thursday the 27th of September at The Actress and Bishop in Birmingham.
Until next time.
Keep it Wild,
KT xx
